ASUD condemns assault on ARC Bagra
NEW DELHI, Nov 10: Arunachal Students’ Union Delhi and its legal wing Arunachal Legal Forum Delhi strongly condemned the physical assault on Assistant Resident Commissioner Marto Bagra by a senior business man at Arunachal House in Delhi on November 6 last.
Describing the assault on the ARC by our own people outside the state as shameful and demoralizing, ASUD demanded justice for the victim. It also appealed to the Chief Resident Commissioner of Arunachal Bhawan to tackle the case judiciously and strictly regulate the security system in Arunachal Bhawan and House.

Resource person, Rev. Dr. (Fr.) Paulson Veliyannoor, a clinical psychologist and the former principal of Saint Claret College, focused on understanding the dynamics of suicide as well as the means for primary and secondary prevention.
Tasso Butung briefed the present trend of increasing number of suicide in the Ziro valley. The overwhelming response to the program with more that 400 participants was an indication of the seriousness of the problem as well as the people’s desire to prevent it at all costs.

Press fraternity announces two-
ITANAGAR, Nov 10: Taking strong exception to the unabated and shameful attacks on media houses and media persons despite deployment of police personnel, the members of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) in a meeting today unanimously expressed their strong resentment over the attack on Echo of Arunachal and its Associate Editor Tapan Kr Das.

A memorandum would be sent to Union Home and I & B Ministers to draw their attention towards the atrocities repeatedly committed on the media persons of the state. Further expressing deep regret that despite cooperation with the civil societies, some members are resorting to pressure tactics and attacks, the members of APC and APWUJ unanimously decided to indefinitely ban publications of news and advertisement of All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF). The same yardstick will apply for any other organisations, associations, unions or political parties if they try to intimidate or attack media houses or journalists in the near future. Also the meeting with editor or journalist in connection with submission of a press release is henceforth strictly prohibited and the press releases should be dropped in the press release box. The police personnel on duty will enforce that no one dare enter the news room to create disturbance. If it happens, the cops on duty must be held responsible.
Later in the evening IGP Sanjay Beniwal and Capital SP Surender Kumar invited media person at latter’s office and assured early arrest of the culprits involved in the EoA attack case and deployment of armed police personnel at media houses. Beniwal also assured to issue status report of Arunachal Times’ Associate Editor Tongam Rina attack case by Monday and added that the case will be taken over by CBI as soon after all formalities are completed. He informed that such cases take time due to some official formalities and therefore there has been some delay. CBI will soon designate investigation officer as soon as the formalities are over.
Arunachal Times office was vandalized on April 15 last, its Associate Editor Tongam Rina was shot at in front of the office on July 15 last and later two other staffs were attacked on September 11 night. The GoAP, particularly the police department, have given only ‘lip service’ without any result whatsoever to grant justice to the press fraternity of the State.
Against all odds, the press persons with meagre salary continued to serve the society but regrettably they are rewarded with attacks and assaults that demoralizes them in continuing in this profession. Enough is enough. It is high time the GoAP and the civil society should rise to the occasion and give freedom to the press for independent functioning.
Attack condemned
While condemning in strongest term the brutal attack on journalist Tapan Das and ransacking of the media house, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh urged the state Govt to ensure rule of law and pay heed to the primary responsibility for the wellbeing of the common people. The ruling Govt in state can not escape from its responsibility, the BJP said adding that there is no sign of safety and security of local press even after the installation of CCTV cameras and security coverage in media houses. Even a layman can perceive of the things that have been taking place in the heart of state capital, the party said.
Point out the broad daylight rural bank robbery incident, the BJP further said that the State government is responsible for the inadequate security measures and the security lapses in Bank. It said the increasing criminal activities in the state capital created panics in the capital dwellers.

The repeated attacks and intimidation of the media establishments and persons deserve condemnation from all quarters and the state government should take stringent action to bring an end to disturbance in public order, it said.
If this tribal society desires to prosper and grow, it has to respect the media and facilitate its unbiased functioning without any coercion for it to keep a tab on the three pillars of democracy – the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.

32nd Natl. Jr Boys & Girls Taekwondo C’ship from Nov 18
ITANAGAR, Nov 10: Preparations are going on in full swing at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun for the 32nd National Junior Boys & Girls Taekwondo Championship.

The Championship will be held in 10 weight categories for both Boys and Girls. A total of 80 medals—30 gold, 20 silver and 40 bronze—will be up for grab, Kaha said while informing that Poomse, the competition of imaginary fighting movement, has been excluded from this edition of the championship by the Taekwondo Federation of India on request of the Arunachal Taekwondo Association due to unavailability of accommodation facility.
Briefing the presspersons about the objective of organizing the championship, which
aims to popularize Taekwondo in Arunachal Pradesh as well as give national exposure
to the players of the state, AWA vice president L Sokun Singh said that Taekwondo
made its first appearance as demonstration sports in Seol Olympics in South Korea
in 1988. It became regular and full medal sport at Sydney Summer Olympics in 2000.
He said that the players of Arunachal were doing very well at national and international
level competitions till 1999. However, the performance gradually started to fall
down after the sport was included as full medal sport in the Olympics, mainly due
to lack of necessary equipments as World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) had made use
of EVA rubber mat, electronic trunk protector, electronic scoring system, sensor,
LCD monitor, sensor socks, head gear and other protective equipments compulsory for
conduction of the sport, which the association can not afford to get due to financial

The loud, chaotic and irritating noise from bursting of crackers and music played is a bit harmful to normal hearing of the people. Evidently, various health risks are inevitably intertwined with this Diwali.
People are, however, not apologetic about their deliberate contribution in increased pollution and degradation of our environment. Majority of them are, indeed, not really aware that this mindless and impulsive ways of celebrating Diwali by bursting crackers all through the night can, actually, be detrimental to our environment and, eventually, raise serious health issues and problems.
One Dillu Don says, “Diwali has been celebrated since ages the way it is being celebrated now. I’ve been celebrating the festival by bursting crackers with my family, relatives and friends right through the nights and it’s, definitely, one occasion that I look forward to very eagerly every year.”

AKA felicitates National School Games medal winners
ITANAGAR, Nov 10: Three karate players of Arunachal Pradesh school team, who have won medals in the 58th National School Games of Karate held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh recently, were felicitated by Arunachal Karate Do Association (AKA) in a function here today morning.
The state school karate team, participating for the first time in the School Games, won three bronze medals in the event. While Janom Dodum of GHSS, Naharalgun bagged a bronze in Kumite in below 65kg category Bamang Yakum of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy and Rebiyialu Kri, GHSS, Tezu won a bronze medal each in their respective weight category in the Games.
Coaches Kakio Siga and Rajnita Rotom were also felicitated on the occasion along with the medal winning players.
Attending the function, Director of School Education T Taloh lauded the karateka trio for bringing laurels to the state as well as education department by winning medal in the prestigious event. While delivering few words of advices to the players, Taloh said that maintaining physical fitness, discipline and regular practice were the mantra for sportspersons to achieving success. Stressing the importance of time management, he gave the students some useful tips on how to successfully maintain their academic studies and daily works without facing any difficulties by properly maintaining time.
He expressed gratitude to Arunachal Karate Association for extending all help and support to the Department in sending the team to the school games despite fund constraint. Taloh assured that his department would make all out efforts for development of games and sports at school level.
Arunachal Weightlifting Association president Abraham K Techi suggested the players not to be complacent with their present performance.
“This is just the beginning, there are still miles to go,” he said. Abraham advised them not to play the sport only to manage a job somehow. “If you perform well, job will chase you,” he said while citing examples of many successful sportspersons. He also urged the Director Taloh to give due importance to sports.

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: Producing their best performance of the season at national level event, the karate players of Arunachal Pradesh won five medals, including three gold and two bronze in the first ever All India Karate Federation (AIKF) Open Championship which concluded in New Delhi today.
P Nobin Jomoh broke the medal jinx today, when he won the Gold in 84 kg + weight category in Senior Men’s Kumite. The fifth medal was won by Biri Moni in below 45kg weight category in Senior Women’s Kumite.
Yesterday, Charu Govin and Anu Komi won a Gold medal each in Junior Boys and Cadet Girls event and while a Bronze medal was won by Tayer Taru in Cadet Boy’s event.
Meanwhile, the karate team expressed gratitude to Arunachal Karate Do Association, especially its president Likha Tara for providing financial assistance to the players to participate in the championship.

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: District Review Meeting of RNTCP Papum Pare district was held today at Seminar Hall, State Hospital Naharlagun.
Presiding over the meeting, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman District Health Society (RNTCP), Papum Pare District Pige Ligu said that TB is very infectious disease and Papum Pare district being the focal point of all walks of people is very sensitive, so proper monitoring should be there to prevent it.
Taking an overview of RNTCP programme in the District, he asked the District TB Officer to issue directives to Private Hospitals and clinics running in twin capital city Itanagar and Naharlagun and its peripheries to abide by the Govt of India TB notification and to file monthly report on the number of TB patients treated under their supervisions. He added that it should be made mandatory for all health care units in the district to submit a timely report for compiling an authentic data on the performance of RNTCP which can be submit to the Govt of India.
On involving schools in Health Checkup for TB, he advised the DTO to tie up with administrative officers and to identify the most viable schools located in far flung areas like Mengio, Pareng and Tarasso circles so that they can take advantage of health care programmes.
Reviewing the functioning of RNTCP programme in the District he also advised the DTO to streamline the system of functioning by routing all RNTCP matters through District Medical Officer.
